"Thomas Mphahlele better known for his rap alias ChefToast has always been into writing since his early teens. He started off with short stories and poetry then in his mid-teens emceeing started to take over. He has always carried the name Toast the Street Chef or simply just ChefToast for as long as he became an emcee and/or a writer because he believes in food for thought in music and arts. PTA has always been that place he felt the homely warmth in but he always carry Limpopo whenever he performs as it is his birth place.
During Chef’s high school days he and his mutual friends started a clique named College but members thereof were never so serious about hip hop hence the decision to just go solo and represent himself and his art the best way he could. These were the days when Chef was a bit anti-social so a pen and a pad became his best friends. He started attending cyphers, poetry sessions expressing his skill then later recorded songs to capture his art. Driven by passion Chef even went to a lot of music auditions and in 2009 he ended up competing on Jam Alley. Since those days hip hop has grown in Chef Toast and he has always been a passionate writer.
Since being into hip hop, Chef released a street mixtape in 2012 titled "Street Recipe", a compilation of the songs He has been recording and it got a fairly good reception, in fact received so well better than he had initially expected. Chef has always been working with producers within his circles, the likes of his late friend Glensitho, basically his friends would provide him with beats. But he recently met up with inspired producers like B-Mag, and the streets is responsive too and appreciative of the music they have been supplying. ChefToast has been making moves since and he recently participated on the Scrambles4Money battle circuit and continues to be an active member.
In conclusion two words to describe ChefToast is Chef Toast, self explanatory as it is, basically food for thought is his primary objective in music and it represents his existence in hip hop."
